My optical drive crapped out on me this evening. It's kind of frustrating since I've been having a good time ripping my CDs lately. Thankfully, I'm almost positive that it's covered under Newegg's return policy so I'm going to call tomorrow for an RMA. Until then, I'll have to swap the dead drive out with my old combo drive.
[UPDATE 8.25 7:59PM]I swapped the faulty drive out for my old combo drive and it unexpectedly solved another problem. The faulty drive was somehow triggering the LED that responds to hard drive activity and had been for a while, but the older drive doesn't do that. I have no idea how or why that happened, but it couldn't have been good. I'm glad to get that bad drive out of my machine.
